Cabot Yard Rail Facility Environmental Cleanup and Redevelopment

TERRA Environmental served as Project Director and Licensed Site Professional (LSP) for the redevelopment of the 60-acre Cabot Yard Maintenance Facility and Rail Yard Campus, providing LSP and remediation services to the MBTA through its General Contractor. Responsibilities encompassed managing technical, regulatory, operational, financial and staffing aspects of environmental project components including soil management, groundwater management, and building abatement for asbestos and PCBs. Environmental activities included plan development, submittal preparation and approval coordination, fieldwork oversight and execution, groundwater management, health and safety monitoring, and soil excavation and management activities. Project scope involved implementation of multiple Remedial Actions at four discrete disposal locations with full MCP and TSCA compliance, including onsite reuse and offsite disposition of over 100,000 cubic yards of reclamation fill, remediation soil and PCB-TSCA remediation waste, plus treatment and recharging of contaminated subsurface water.
