Initial Assessment and Planning
Risk Identification: Evaluate site-specific hazards (e.g., dust, VOCs, noise) based on project activities like excavation or abatement. Review Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
Regulatory Standards: Ensure compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910 and MassDEP air quality standards. Identify monitoring equipment (e.g., PID, dust monitors) needed.
Monitoring Plan: Develop a Health and Safety Plan (HASP) outlining monitoring frequency, locations, and action levels for worker and community protection.
Remediation Process
Real-Time Monitoring: Deploy air quality monitors to measure PM10, VOCs, and other hazards. Use personal sampling pumps for worker exposure assessment.
Data Collection: Record monitoring data continuously, noting any exceedances of Permissible Exposure Limits (PELs). Implement immediate corrective actions if needed
Communication: Brief workers daily on monitoring results and safety protocols. Notify stakeholders if community exposure risks arise.
LSP Signoff and Documentation
Data Review: Compile monitoring data into a final report, confirming compliance with OSHA and MassDEP standards.
LSP Signoff (if applicable): For MCP-regulated sites, the LSP reviews monitoring data as part of the Permanent Solution Statement process, ensuring no health risks remain.
Client Deliverable: Provide a comprehensive safety report with monitoring logs, corrective actions, and recommendations for future projects.
